Reading your Own Hand Markings: A Primer

Earlier this week I gave you a general look at the meanings of your fingers.   The context for these posts are about discerning the meaning of a callous, freckle, cut, or bruise, but I hope you can see how having this very general understanding of your hands can help you as you look to your higher self for some guidance.

One of the things that always amazes people is how accurate this tool is.  Your hands are like a profile assessment that you just can’t fudge.  And, like a personality or profile assessment, your hands are meant to be a tool on your path to success, abundance, wellness and fulfillment.  Your hands alone cannot predict your future.  Your hands alone simply show your predispositions and your core desires and challenges.

Sometimes it’s a little overwhelming to be fully “seen” – even if it is also validating.  Still, validation is essential for our travels through life – it’s never an excuse to sit back and let life slide by, rather, knowing our deepest truth and strengths can help us set sail in the direction of our dreams.

Today, let’s talk about a few more areas of the palm, okay?

The MOUNTS are like little mountains in the palm of your hand.  They can be fleshy or depleted – again, this isn’t complicated stuff.  We look at everything in the hand in relationship to everything else there — in other words, some people just have fleshy hands, and others tend to have flat hands.  When you’re looking at your hand take that into consideration – if the entire hand seems “flat” but a particular mount (or mound) really protrudes — you might want to thing about that zone having an overarching impact on the hand (and therefore the personality/current situation).

Each finger has a mount – and for general purposes, you’ll refer to the meanings of the fingers for the meaning of the mount.

Take note of the mounts in each of your hands – is the mount below Jupiter big and puffy while the mount below Saturn is concave?  What inferences can you draw from that situation?

A couple of other mounts for you to note:

The Mount of Venus:  This mount is that fleshy pad seemingly attached to your thumb.  The mount of Venus is about Venusian energy – the ability and desire for play, pleasure, sensuality, comfort and fun.  It can also represent overindulgence in any of the listed things.   If you were to have a cut or a freckle or some other such marking here, what, if anything do you think that would represent?

venus

The Mount of the Moon: This mount is found on the opposite side of the hand of the mount of Venus.  The outer, lower edge of the palm.  The mount of the Moon is representative of feelings, sensitivities, empathy, the need to connect with others on a deep level, tuning into the divine.  Think about the repercussions of too much or too little Moon-ness!  What might a marking on this zone of the hand represent?

As we continue to explore the meanings in our hands, I’d like to invite you to this month’s free teleclass on Heart Lines and Essential Oils.  We’ll be gathering for the teleclass at 6pm Eastern and finish up at 7:15 pm.  If you’d like to join us, please RSVP here and send me your email address to receive the call in  information!

We’ll continue the hand-reading basics with a look at the life and head lines!

Cuts, Bruises and Callouses AGAIN

I’ve written a few times about freckles, cuts, scars and callouses (see here, here & here).

By far these are the most talked about posts I’ve written in more than 9 years of blogging – between those posts there are more than 120 comments!.

I thought I’d revisit the topic today – and also find out what else you’d like to know about these ‘unnatural’ markings on the hands.  I’m excited to be preparing a class on this topic for late Spring and your questions can help me really cover the key questions you have!

What I love most about hands and their markings is that it’s NOT rocket science.  A callous can show an area of your life where you’re feeling calloused, a scar can give a clue as to a tender spot that hasn’t fully healed  – or a  place where you’re not willing to break through again.  Bruises show where you’re feeling emotionally and spiritually bruised.  Cuts show me where you’re cut off from some of your own innate wisdom…cool, huh?

Freckles are there to illuminate an important part of your karmic contract in this lifetime.

Callouses, bruises, cuts  and freckles may come and go, but for the most part a scar is there to stay.

The most common questions I receive about this topic are personal inquiries — I like to stress that I cannot possibly give you accurate, personalized insight without viewing both your hands, (take a look at Personal Hand Reviews if that’s something you’d like), I’d like to give you some simple insights so you can start working with your own inner wisdom.

The following are VERY general/basic meanings of various areas of the hand.  If you have a freckle, callous, bruise, cut or scar in one of these places – you can do the digging necessary to identify the meaning for you.  Please remember that reading hands is NOT predictive, so we’re looking at everything in your hands in the current place and time.  In some cases, you’ll be reflecting on what happened at the time you cut your hand or reviewing past events.  For a one-of-a-kind review – you’ll really need to look at the freckle (or cut or bruise, etc) in context with everything else in your hand (including fingerprints, hand shapes, lines, mounts and more).

Also — keep in mind there is no GOOD or BAD in the hands — just information.  How you choose to look at any given situation/thing is completely up to you.  If you feel really challenged with a word or a meaning, this is a wonderful opportunity to start the process of inner coaching!

Without further ado – the basic meanings of the fingers:

Jupiter Finger (index, pointer, first finger): Power, leadership, control, vision, bossiness, management, Take charge energy, tyranny, “The buck stops here”  (This is the most commonly cut or injured finger)

Saturn Finger (middle finger): Time, value, money, harvest, agriculture, nature sciences, task master, integrity, guilt, self-worth

Apollo finger (ring finger): Creativity, spotlight, artistry, innovation, fear of rejection, wall-flower, hiding out

Mercury finger (pinky, little finger): Communication, Healing, listening, speaking, writing, intuitive insight, surrender, trust, intimacy, sex

Thumb: Success, Failure, Applying one’s will, outcomes, focus, flexibility with people and things, planning or lack of planning, grasping, holding onto the past/ideas that no longer serve

So where are your freckles?  Cuts? Scrapes?

Can you put together the meanings and do a reading for yourself?

(Tune in the remainder of the week to read about other areas of the hands!)

Palmistry, Freckles & Power

Freckles appear to remind us of something deeply important to our soul’s journey.

They show up to get our attention – even if you rarely look at your hands, odds are good that you’ll  notice a freckle on the palm of your hand.

According to Wikipedia:

Freckles can be found on anyone no matter their genetic background; however, having freckles is genetic and is related to the presence of the dominant melanocortin-1 receptor MC1R gene variant.[2] The formation of freckles is triggered by exposure to sunlight. The exposure to UV-B radiation activates melanocytes to increase melanin production, which can cause freckles to become darker.

Why then, are there freckles that appear on the palm of the hand?

I found a freckle on the palm of my hand while I was in college.  It sat right below the first (Jupiter) finger of my left hand. And it stayed there until I started learning hand analysis not long before my 40th birthday.  I can still see the remnants of it if I look hard enough.

The Jupiter Mount freckle was a reminder to own my own power and to step up to lead on my own terms – both at work and in my personal life.  Jupiter is all about Power, Vision, Leadership, Guidance and Empowerment.

Jupiter is a dominant zone in my hands. I’m also the owner of a Jupiter Star on both hands as well as a Teacher’s box.  When Jupiter’s needs are not being met, the owner of all this “Jupiter energy” can become antagonistic, bombastic, and bossy (among other lovely qualities).  It’s really interesting to me to note that every time we blame someone (or something) else for the issues we’re having in our life, we are giving our power away.

Power give-aways were a way of life for me back then, but I couldn’t see it. Instead my life just seemed full of “shoulds” and “have-tos.”

For example, at the time that I started studying this freckle more closely – after my college career had ended, I truly believed that:

  • I had to work at the soul-sucking job to make money to pay my mortgage for the condo with the moldy closets;
  • I had to work even harder so I could afford to hire a workman to come in and fix said closets;
  • I had to suck up to a boss that was a loser and misogynist because he held the keys to my promotions and my paychecks;
  • I had to deal with the fact that my then-fiance’s ex girlfriends kept calling and showing up at the house because he told me they were just friends and I didn’t want to seem like a psycho;
  • If only my work schedule would cooperate, I could work out more often;
  • I had to ….

You see where this is heading right?

I spent so much time and energy tending to things like those on the list that despite the fancy titles, leadership positions at work, community and volunteer organizations I had virtually NO POWER over my own life.

I was riding a train that never changed the tracks.  Life seemed good on the outside, the scenery was  often gorgeous and although I didn’t think I wanted for anything, I was longing for my power.

After I had my hands read, and started learning to read hands myself, tiny steps were leading to more steps.  I started questioning the shoulds and have-tos and came up with some really out-of-this-world ideas.

Eventually I realized how much power had been given away – I’d always thought of myself as a strong, powerful and independent woman, so it was a big shock to find that I didn’t have any real control about the direction of my life!

As the life learning continued (let’s just say my mind was continually being blown by new ideas, flashes of insight and completely foreign-to-me ways of thinking) the reality sunk in about what it means to be fully in charge of your own life.

My Jupiter Mount freckle appeared while I was in college.  College was a time of significant growth for me (as it is for most, I suspect).  I was simultaneously questioning everything being taught by “the man” and trying to fit in with whom I thought was the cool, avant-garde crowd.

Eventually I tired of working so hard to play by everyone else’s rules and dropped out after 4 + years of mediocre work and energy expended trying to fit a square peg into a round hole (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun.)

The freckle appeared as a sign that claiming my power (not my bossiness) was key to my life’s journey.  I’m humbled to realize that it was nearly 20 years before I began claiming what was rightfully mine.

My Jupiter Mount freckle disappeared as I claimed my power.

Do you have a freckle on the palm of one or both of your hands?  If so, where is it?  Which hand?  When did it appear?  Tell me in the comments!

The importance of freckles

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that each palmist has their own special fascination in the hands.

Don’t get me wrong, we all find hands, palms and fingers endlessly fascinating, I’ve yet to meet a professional palmist who refuses to learn more or who thinks it’s time to stop learning.  Yet, we all have the thing that really floats our boat and makes our toes tingle.

For me, it’s freckles and their sister markings – scars and callouses.

Before I even learned to read hands I was aware of a freckle that appeared on what I now know is the Mount of Jupiter of my left hand.  When it appeared I was endlessly curious – I’m not a freckly gal and up til that point I was sure that freckles came about as a pigmentation doo-hicky related to sun and fair skin.  (My family is full of fair-skinned Irish peeps, so I’ve seen my share of freckles!).

Yet I had never seen a freckle on the palm of someone’s hand.

At first someone told me it was a birthmark.

I wasn’t buying that explanation, I knew it wasn’t there throughout my life, it had appeared sometime in my 30s.  I can’t say for sure when it appeared or if it appeared “over night” or over time.  But it was there and it was definitely a dark brown spot sitting atop my Jupiter mount.

About the time that I decided to learn to read hands that freckle had begun to fade and a new one was forming  (and is still there) sitting just below the beginning of my heart line, actually tagged by a “dangling anger” from the heart line.  It’s big and it’s brown and it’s there just to ensure that I never lose sight of my life lesson.

In the five years since I learned to read hands I’ve come a long way in terms of accepting the gift that my life lesson brings to me.  It doesn’t mean that I love the way I can fall into that pit and writhe around when I’m hiding out, but I do understand that every time I take ownership of my lesson and get real about my own trust, surrender and intimacy questions (i.e., trusting the divine, trusting myself and trusting those closest to me), things start to “ease up” around me doing what comes easiest and most natural for me (in other words, I get to step into my purpose in a bigger way.)

The challenge of course is that your lesson can really hit when you’re down.  It sometimes feels like I’m being kicked in the gut after falling down a flight of stairs.  In that particular moment, I’d be lying if I told you, “Oh, it’s okay, I’m fine, it’s just my life lesson having a little tussle!  I’ll be up and at em in no time.”

So that freckle, sitting there below my pinky stares at me every morning when I wake up and check out my hands.  Yes, before I put on my glasses, grab my phone or even kick off the covers, I put my hands in front of my eyes and focus on what’s happening, what’s changed and what’s important.  We all have our little rituals, it shouldn’t be a shock that a palmist would check out her hands to jump-start her day, right?

That freckle represents all the work that I’m doing to tell my truth, to walk my talk and to stand up for my own voice.  That freckle reminds me that no matter how awful or scary my life story seems at the moment — it’s just an illusion.  And that the only way out is through.  I can’t hide.  I can’t stay in bed and I can’t lie.  I have to come clean and tell my story.

Whether it’s a conversation with a friend or family member, a story to you, or an admission to an authority figure, the truth has to come out for me to surrender to the path.

I’m stubborn, so that freckle is hanging on — although, thankfully, fading.  I’m getting it though.  Every day that I walk my talk, my purpose becomes more accessible.  My purpose is helping you shine and that, although hard to hang a hat on in terms of “profitably” is what I have to trust.  I have to trust that it will all work out.  That most trite of expressions is often the calling card I use for myself when my lesson is kicking my arse.

So, love your lesson.

Do all freckles represent our lessons?  No.

Sometimes they’re little badges of honor – or memory markers for important milestones in our lives.  But most often they seem to show up in me and my clients, to remind us of our strengths and challenges and to encourage us to keep moving, to keep trusting to keep living bigger than we think possible.

What about you? Have any freckles on the palm side of your hand?  Tell me about them in the comments!
