Reading your Own Hand Markings: A Primer

Earlier this week I gave you a general look at the meanings of your fingers.   The context for these posts are about discerning the meaning of a callous, freckle, cut, or bruise, but I hope you can see how having this very general understanding of your hands can help you as you look to your higher self for some guidance.

One of the things that always amazes people is how accurate this tool is.  Your hands are like a profile assessment that you just can’t fudge.  And, like a personality or profile assessment, your hands are meant to be a tool on your path to success, abundance, wellness and fulfillment.  Your hands alone cannot predict your future.  Your hands alone simply show your predispositions and your core desires and challenges.

Sometimes it’s a little overwhelming to be fully “seen” – even if it is also validating.  Still, validation is essential for our travels through life – it’s never an excuse to sit back and let life slide by, rather, knowing our deepest truth and strengths can help us set sail in the direction of our dreams.

Today, let’s talk about a few more areas of the palm, okay?

The MOUNTS are like little mountains in the palm of your hand.  They can be fleshy or depleted – again, this isn’t complicated stuff.  We look at everything in the hand in relationship to everything else there — in other words, some people just have fleshy hands, and others tend to have flat hands.  When you’re looking at your hand take that into consideration – if the entire hand seems “flat” but a particular mount (or mound) really protrudes — you might want to thing about that zone having an overarching impact on the hand (and therefore the personality/current situation).

Each finger has a mount – and for general purposes, you’ll refer to the meanings of the fingers for the meaning of the mount.

Take note of the mounts in each of your hands – is the mount below Jupiter big and puffy while the mount below Saturn is concave?  What inferences can you draw from that situation?

A couple of other mounts for you to note:

The Mount of Venus:  This mount is that fleshy pad seemingly attached to your thumb.  The mount of Venus is about Venusian energy – the ability and desire for play, pleasure, sensuality, comfort and fun.  It can also represent overindulgence in any of the listed things.   If you were to have a cut or a freckle or some other such marking here, what, if anything do you think that would represent?

venus

The Mount of the Moon: This mount is found on the opposite side of the hand of the mount of Venus.  The outer, lower edge of the palm.  The mount of the Moon is representative of feelings, sensitivities, empathy, the need to connect with others on a deep level, tuning into the divine.  Think about the repercussions of too much or too little Moon-ness!  What might a marking on this zone of the hand represent?

As we continue to explore the meanings in our hands, I’d like to invite you to this month’s free teleclass on Heart Lines and Essential Oils.  We’ll be gathering for the teleclass at 6pm Eastern and finish up at 7:15 pm.  If you’d like to join us, please RSVP here and send me your email address to receive the call in  information!

We’ll continue the hand-reading basics with a look at the life and head lines!

Cuts, Bruises and Callouses AGAIN

I’ve written a few times about freckles, cuts, scars and callouses (see here, here & here).

freckle below left mercury

By far these are the most talked about posts I’ve written in more than 9 years of blogging – between those posts there are more than 120 comments!.

I thought I’d revisit the topic today – and also find out what else you’d like to know about these ‘unnatural’ markings on the hands.  I’m excited to be preparing a class on this topic for late Spring and your questions can help me really cover the key questions you have!

What I love most about hands and their markings is that it’s NOT rocket science.  A callous can show an area of your life where you’re feeling calloused, a scar can give a clue as to a tender spot that hasn’t fully healed  – or a  place where you’re not willing to break through again.  Bruises show where you’re feeling emotionally and spiritually bruised.  Cuts show me where you’re cut off from some of your own innate wisdom…cool, huh?

Freckles are there to illuminate an important part of your karmic contract in this lifetime.

Callouses, bruises, cuts  and freckles may come and go, but for the most part a scar is there to stay.

The most common questions I receive about this topic are personal inquiries — I like to stress that I cannot possibly give you accurate, personalized insight without viewing both your hands, (take a look at Personal Hand Reviews if that’s something you’d like), I’d like to give you some simple insights so you can start working with your own inner wisdom.

The following are VERY general/basic meanings of various areas of the hand.  If you have a freckle, callous, bruise, cut or scar in one of these places – you can do the digging necessary to identify the meaning for you.  Please remember that reading hands is NOT predictive, so we’re looking at everything in your hands in the current place and time.  In some cases, you’ll be reflecting on what happened at the time you cut your hand or reviewing past events.  For a one-of-a-kind review – you’ll really need to look at the freckle (or cut or bruise, etc) in context with everything else in your hand (including fingerprints, hand shapes, lines, mounts and more).

Also — keep in mind there is no GOOD or BAD in the hands — just information.  How you choose to look at any given situation/thing is completely up to you.  If you feel really challenged with a word or a meaning, this is a wonderful opportunity to start the process of inner coaching!

Without further ado – the basic meanings of the fingers:

Jupiter Finger (index, pointer, first finger): Power, leadership, control, vision, bossiness, management, Take charge energy, tyranny, “The buck stops here”  (This is the most commonly cut or injured finger)

Saturn Finger (middle finger): Time, value, money, harvest, agriculture, nature sciences, task master, integrity, guilt, self-worth

Apollo finger (ring finger): Creativity, spotlight, artistry, innovation, fear of rejection, wall-flower, hiding out

Mercury finger (pinky, little finger): Communication, Healing, listening, speaking, writing, intuitive insight, surrender, trust, intimacy, sex

Thumb: Success, Failure, Applying one’s will, outcomes, focus, flexibility with people and things, planning or lack of planning, grasping, holding onto the past/ideas that no longer serve

So where are your freckles?  Cuts? Scrapes?

Can you put together the meanings and do a reading for yourself?

(Tune in the remainder of the week to read about other areas of the hands!)

Some days just go too fast

Or should I say some MONTHS?

I feel like it was just September and now I’m cruising into October.  This makes me feel a little old — the way I’m lamenting the speeding time.

September was a fantastic month for me.  So was August.  And October is shaping up the same way.  Something seemed to “switch” in my inner and outer worlds when we moved out here to a new county.

All the moaning I usually do about moving – nada.  And it seems like focusing on ease and grace really made a big difference.

There’s more to come in October too.  I’m so excited to be out teaching LIVE classes in palmistry again.  I’m heading to New Jersey in a few weeks and will be teaching at the Golden Light Pranic Healing Center in Marlton NJ.  It’s going to be an adventure.

Even though I was born and raised in NJ, it’s been a long time since I’ve had to make my way around the state.  My well-earned reputation says I have no sense of direction, but I plan to make that into part of the adventure.

That’s it for now, I promise more ‘useful’ posts in the near future.

If you’re in the NJ area – Check out the class and come join me!  (There’s an early-bird fee of only $75)

Steven Covey, Success & Hands

How to Define Success via Steven Covey

On hearing of the death of Steven Covey, there’s been a renewed interest in his book,The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Like most of you, I read this book several years ago – even before I started a business.  The first time I read it I  thought I knew it all.  Saying to myself, “This stuff is a no-brainer” I poo-poohed the book and went about my merry way.  Years later, after three years in my first business, I picked it up again on my coach’s urging.  I found a deeper understanding of the habits and decided to embrace them in the work I was doing in the world.  T

Over time the focus on the 7 habits took a bit of a back seat as I moved on in my life and my business.  Now I’m rereading them and gaining new insight.

I’ve noticed how the habits are reflected in the hands and vice versa.

I’m noticing how much profundity is in the simplest places – much like the fundamentals of being spiritual – complexity isn’t required.  In fact, the pursuit of simplicity is the most satisfying way to your desired outcome.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the first 4 Habits and where they can reside in the hands: (tune in next time for the final 3 Habits!)

1)      Be Proactive.  Take initiative and don’t wait for someone else’s permission to make your success happen.  First, this requires that you define success on your own terms and dig deep enough to know WHY you think something is an indicator of success in your life.  In your hands the ease with which you take action is often seen in your thumbs and your Saturn line. Many old time palmists called the Saturn line, the “fate” line.  You can see some connection there, right?

2)      Begin with the End in Mind.  The old saying goes, “if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll sure enough wind up there.”  Your WHY is imperative here.  If you know why you’re aiming for that distant shore, you’re going to be focused on pulling together the tools and team to help you arrive.  Your team has to share your vision and that’s so much easier when you have a rallying cry that vibrates with your WHY.  This ability to share a vision and lead others to the goal is seen most definitively on and around your first (Jupiter) finger.  You might recall that Jupiter is the counterpart of Zeus and is considered to be the “god of the gods.”  While you might not aspire to that status, if you aspire to a goal, being able to know where you’re going, how you’ll arrive and what it takes to lead others to the shared vision is imperative.

3)      Put First Things First.  Common sense tells you that you won’t be performing in Carnegie Hall (or the Kennedy Center) without first learning to play an instrument and then committing to consistent practice.  All the steps that go into preparing for your success should be clear to you as you set the vision and keep the end in mind.  What happens though, is we want immediate gratification and try to skip some steps and/or find ourselves mixed up about which step to take first.  This confusion and frustration can show up in a number of  places in your hands, but a dead giveaway for me as your reader is when your fingertips are very strong and your lowest finger zones are weak and emaciated.

4)      Think Win-Win.  If you’ve been watching the Presidential campaigning and the hijinks in the US Congress lately – you’ll be hard pressed to see an example of anyone thinking win-win.  Yet, once upon a time that was the key to success, not only as a nation, but as individuals.  Luckily, most of us are subject to the level of scrutiny and gamesmanship rampant in the political arena.  That means you and I can focus on our success with a win-win mindset.  Instead of taking the stance that “if you get what you want, I lose” I can dig into a conversation with you and learn why you want you want, and how you can have the outcome you desire, while also allowing me the option to succeed as well.  This ability to think and strategize like a diplomat is most obvious in the little (Mercury) finger.  The ability to mediate, negotiate and create positive outcomes for all sides is apparent in what I call the “master” path of a Mercurian.

There are 3 more Habits that Steven Covey has left with us as his legacy.  Next time we’ll take a look at the Ring finger, the Thumbs, the Pinky and the Heart line.

In the meantime, spend some time focusing on WHY you have the goals you have – what does success mean to you?

How to start from the Ground and Go Up

Big Visions Need to Get Grounded

You have BIG visions.  You have dreams about the perfect world and great ideas about different ways to make that world a reality.

The problem is, you get stuck in the dream stage.  The brainstorming and riffing with others is so much fun and so energizing that you feel lit up and raring to go.  But then you wind up like a dog chasing his tail – going round and round in circles but not gaining any ground.

That circular dance is sometimes obvious – like when you spend hours on Facebook in a given day instead of hunkering down to write their business proposal.  (and by YOU I mean ME too)  Sometimes the dance is more subtle, like the way you continue to refine of the details of the business plan and the hours you spend adding and subtracting from your list of possible collaborators.

When I look at your hand prints I can see your big visions.  They show up as large fingertips.  Usually in prints they print darker than the rest of the finger zones.  Sometimes they are downright HUGE in comparison to everything else in your hand.

The problem is that often times the lowest zone (the one that meets up with your palm) doesn’t exist.  Okay, I know your fingers are not actually floating in space above your hands as you go about your day, but on the print – they’re not attached.

It’s not a life threatening situation.  It’s just a sign that the foundation isn’t in place for your big dreams and visions.

When you have big visions you have got to create a foundation.  This is the “boring bit” according to most of you.  You love jump-starting, brainstorming and igniting new things.

You hate filling out forms, dotting i’s and crossing t’s.  By itself that’s not a bad way to be – after all – Richard Branson is famous for his new ideas and he runs more than 300 companies around the world.  However, he is meticulous about building teams that are capable of handling the details and running the individual pieces of his companies. (see The Bad Boy of Business wants You to Be Good by Chris Brogan in the August 2012 issue of Success Magazine)

If you haven’t quite launched your first business yet, we’re getting ahead of ourselves talking about your leadership team and training.

So where do you start if you’re an above average gal just trying to make a big difference in this world with the one thing you know you’re meant to do?

Get down to the foundation.

You don’t toss seeds in the air and hope they come up pumpkins in a week, so why would you think that your new business idea or dream vacation would come together in a matter of hours or weeks without any planning or nurturing?

It doesn’t have to be boring, but it does need to be structured.

Now that you have your great idea (or more likely, dozens of ideas) it’s time to take action to make them real.

Together we can create a personalized action plan based on all the unique features in your hands – including your fingerprints.  However, you do not need a reading to take action, you simply need a commitment to yourself and your vision.

Here are three steps you can take RIGHT NOW to get those big, lofty visions out of your head and into the world.

1)      Assess where you are now.  Do you have any current skills or tools that can help you start your new idea?  What tools and skills do you need to add?  Will you take classes, recruit others or hire people to fill in what you don’t already know?  Write all this down.

2)      Separate the answers to the questions above into specific lists or columns.  For example create the column headings “people”, “tools,” and “skills” and start filling them in.

3)    Make some phone calls.  I know you’re hoping to sit back at your desk and Google for information and send emails.  Resist that temptation.  Use your voice.  The vibration of your voice connecting with another and asking for what you need is extremely powerful.

Start with these three simple steps to go from big ideas to creation.  I’m so proud of you!

(oh, and as you start laying the foundation and taking specific action to make your dreams a reality – watch how the bottom zones of your fingers start to plump up!)
